The Building and Inspection Division prioritizes health and safety through the stringent enforcement of established codes and ordinances. These encompass zoning regulations, building codes, comprehensive clean community mandates, flooding protocols, sign regulations, and address protocols.

The adoption and enforcement of the 2018 International Codes (encompassing property maintenance, building, mechanical, plumbing, and gas codes) and the 2020 National Electrical Code, played a pivotal role in reducing Meridian residents’ property insurance rates as set by the Mississippi State Rating Bureau.
